Robert, I want to ask your oinipon on the general debate over the usefulness of personas. There seem to be two ‘camps’ of thought on this. 1) Personas are artificial and make-belief with no connection to the target-market. Just a collection of the stereo-types of the designer. 2) and the other that Personas give you more specific and targeted access to the target market. My attitude is that when done properly it is a composite created using the results from the research, testing, market studies OF the participants involved in these. The resulting composite Persona may be a collection of stereo-types, but it is based on the stereo-types of the target-market-end user. Because of this I believe that it provides a valuable tool for use in designing and developing a site that is targeted (a form of direct marketing which better serves the end user. Whew! Anyway I would like to know your thoughts on this.
